In the recently concluded Talakayan Kabataan 2010: Mga Dapat Gawin (MDG) Para sa Kapayapaan extemporaneous speaking contest, Mr. Derek Dale A. Bayquen was adjudged as the Best Speaker - Organizer's Choice.
Mr. Bayquen, a first year BS Physical Therapy student and the youngest of all the contestants, spoke persuasively on the millennium goal “Eliminating Gender Disparity in Primary and Secondary Education”. Derek delivered his 10 - minute speech without the aid of notes. His dynamic performance incorporated research, quotes and opinion that definitely convinced the panel of adjudicators. During his speech, the members of the panel asked questions relating to his speech which he substantially answered.
The contest held on December 2, 2009 at the NCCC Mall Activity Center aimed at raising the awareness and interest of the youth on the upcoming presidential elections. It focused on the eight (8) millennium Development Goals and the agenda of each presidential aspirant on how to achieve these goals by 2010.
The Technical Assistance Center for Development of Rural and Urban Poor (TACDRUP) in partnership with the YouthVote Phils, Ateneo Law Forensic Association and GMA Network organized the contest.
The big event was aired in the GMA news program Testigo and in its morning show Una ka Bay.
In another development, Bayquen will represent Davao City in the Mindanao-wide YMCA Extemporaneous Speaking Contest come January 2010.
