According to reports, nearly 500,000 women per year missed opportunities to save their lives against Cervical Cancer. Along with other advocates and leading health organizations, Davao Doctors College (DDC) recently embarked on activities to promote a cervical-cancer-free community. Last July 18, DDC held a forum spearheaded by its President & CEO Dr. Rizalina M. Pañgan with Dr. Concepcion D. Rayel as the guest speaker. The activity aimed to increase the level of awareness of the employees and students about the alarming health disease and to provide insights on revolutionary vaccines that are market-ready to protect females against the strain of the human papillomavirus (HPV). Pursuing its mission to provide health facilities to the employees, the Human Resource Department hosted a cervical cancer vaccination last September 10, 2009 with the assistance of Dr. Gerino D. Pañgan and Dr. Loyette P. Uy. For the initial run, DDC provided its health facility to the first batch of employees who were given their first “shot” of the Cervarix vaccine. The succeeding shots will be given in November this year and February next year.
Accordingly, this will be a continuing advocacy program to induce greater percentage of recipients across ages within and outside of DDC community. There is no better time than today. Remember, no matter what age, we have plenty of choices to make when it comes to reproductive living. Make the safest and healthiest decision in life--- live life without fear of Cervical Cancer.
