A first year student of the Physical Therapy Department copped first place in the Extemporaneous Speech Contest in the recently concluded City-wide Academic Olympics on August 28-29, 2009. The contest was sponsored by the Young Men's Christian Association of Davao, Inc. (YMCA) with the theme “Getting the Youth set Towards Responsible Global Citizenship”.

Derek Dale Bayquen bested the others by winning the 1st Place in the Extemporaneous Speech Contest. He was awarded a Trophy and cash prize. As champion, Bayquen will represent the Davao Region in the National Contest in November 2009. Details of the contest will be disclosed later.

Floro Cubelo, Jr., a 3rd Year student in Nursing and Fhrain Jane L. Tampus, a 2nd Year Secondary Education student each won the third place in the Oratorical and Essay Writing Contests respectively. Both also received trophies and cash prizes.
