             Davao Doctors College was privileged for having been invited to a Lecture on Islamic Peace Education. The invitation came from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of the Philippines Mindanao. The three-hour session inclusive of an open forum was conducted last 01 July 2010 at 9:00AM, at the Lorenzo Hall of UP Mindanao in Mintal, Davao City. Dr. Lucila T. Lupo, Head of the Academic Support Services, and Mr. Romel L. Tambis, Head of the Student Personnel Services, attended the lecture.
 
            The session consisted of two parts, both delivered by two international speakers who shared their insights to the participants. The first part was given by Ustadz Mohammad Hannan Hassan, the Assistant Director for Education of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore. He is currently researching as a PhD candidate in the renowned Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University, Canada. His interest has always been in philosophy and history of ideas and civilizations, and its implications on education. Ustadz Hassan focused his lecture on the evaluation of materials for Peace Education.
 
            The second part was given by Madam Rahayu Mohamad, the Programme Director for Curriculum Development and Implementation of IQRA’ ASIA PTE LTD. Her area of specialization has been in developing creative Islamic educational materials and programmes with a view towards inculcating values and life skills. Madam Rahayu focused her lecture on teaching Islamic Peace Education.
 
            The activity is part of the lecture series being conducted by the Philippine Council for Islam and Democracy (PCID) for the Academic Year 2010-2011. PCID is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization dedicated to the study of Islamic and democratic political thought and the search for a peaceful solution to the conflicts affecting the Muslim communities in Mindanao.
