Davao Doctors College sponsored a Family Day last February 11, 2012 at the DDC Mintal property. Held in a farm setting, the Family Day was well attended by approximately 300 employees and their family members. It was also attended by Dr. Rizalina Maria Karis M. Mata, Trustee; Mr. Raymund Del Val, President of Davao Doctors Hospital and; Ms. Geralyn M. Somozo, Marketing Officer of Davao Doctors Hospital. Prof. Miguel D. Soledad, President and CEO of Davao Doctors College, was joined by his wife, Olive.
The Family Day was spearheaded by the Extension and Administrative Services Department. The choice of the venue was well thought of by Prof. Soledad whose idea was well accepted by the Labor Management Council (LMC). Prof. Soledad wanted to bring the DDC employees and their families to the DDC Mintal property for them to see the place and know the potentials it can offer. Amidst the threat of rainy days, the event came out enjoyable for it did not rain the night before and during the activity. The attendees enjoyed the whole activity plus the feel of being close to nature.
Highlights of the morning activity were the Thanksgiving Mass and the Tree Planting. The “boodle fight” also made the lunch exciting and quite different from the usual dining style as all attendees gathered in designated long tables and feasted on the delectable food with their bare hands.
Adults and kids who were grouped into four vibrant colors such as pink, yellow, violet and green, had extra fun with the palarong Pinoy, namely: luksong tinik, pabitin, hitting the pot, dodge ball, tug of war, balloon popping, Maria went to Mintal, etc. The games did bring out excitement among the kids and the “child” among the adults.
The afternoon activity was highlighted with the giving of special awards to employees and departments. Achievement awards were given to non-teaching staff who completed masteral and doctoral degrees during the course of their employment at Davao Doctors College.
In addition, the Physical Therapy, Radiologic Technology and Optometry Programs were awarded for Producing Topnotchers. The General Services and Income Generating Ventures of the Extension and Administrative Services also received a Departmental Award for having the Highest Percentage of Attendance and Punctuality Awardees for the Year 2011. John Mart C. Derla, Instructor of the Hospitality Management, also received a special award for All the Winnings of Hospitality Management in Local Competition.
As a whole, the Family Day was simply a-w-e-s-o-m-e!
