Two hundred forty parents attended the Parents’ Orientation held Saturday, June 5 at the DDC Gym. The Supreme Student Organization (SSO) in coordination with the Admisions Office spearheaded the whole day activity.
The annual orientation program has been organized to set the tone for the next four or more years in terms of defining the parent-school relationship. The attending parent gained knowledge of the school’s academic and social aspects by meeting informally with administrators and program heads during the Dean's Time. Moreover, parents developed a network of friends by interacting with other parents in the same academic program their children are enrolled in.
This year, the orientation was set for the whole day. Activities in the morning were attended by parents and freshmen as well as the school administrators. It started with a campus tour as well as a virtual tour of the offices and facilities of the school.
“Make yourselves at home by optimizing the opportunities offered by the college. You are a batch of many firsts. First to use the new College of Arts and Sciences Building (CAS) with a Dormitel and the training hotel for HRM; first to enroll in BS Occupational Therapy; first to undergo Independent Learning Skills Training; and first to experience the Supreme Student Organization-led orientation”, said Dr. Rizalina Mitra-Pañgan - President & CEO, in her welcome message.
One of the highlights of the morning activity was the sharing of testimonies by Derek Dale Bayquen, BSPT 2 student and Mr. Domingo Sodusta, a parent of a BSN 3 student. It was followed by the ceremonial presentation of the Student Handbook by the Executive Council and the acceptance by the parent and student representatives. The handbook symbolized the covenant by which DDC and the parents take part in the shared responsibility of nurturing and developing the student's full potential towards the path of academic excellence.
In closing, Dr. Maria Leah F. Villano, Director for Academic Affairs said “We thank you for your trust and confidence and we hope that as the years progress, you will grow and realize that indeed, you have made the right choice in entrusting your child's education to Davao Doctors College”.
In the afternoon, the SSO facilitated the Students Acquaintance Program. The Freshmen were introduced to the different clubs and organizations.
