With the national and local elections in the Philippines less than a year away, the Student Personnel Services (SPS) of the Davao Doctors College explored ways to improve voter education messages through a Comprehensive Voters'  Education Forum at the AVR Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Through this activity, the SPS hopes to contribute in shaping voter education messages that will emphasize active citizen engagement during and even after elections.

Speakers shed light on the importance of the youth's participation in the 2010 elections as voters and as volunteers, basics of the automated election system, tips on choosing the right candidates and how to spot election frauds.

Attendees were DDC students from the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) and the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education (CASBE).

The forum featured the following speakers and panelists: Atty. Marlon Casquejo, Asst. Regional Director-COMELEC XI, Dondon Clamor of the Technical Assistance Center for the Development of Rural and Urban Poor (TACDRUP) and Deewai Rodriguez of Bantay Eleksyon 2010. Facilitators were Pia Zamora of TACDRUP and Romel L. Tambis, Head-SPS.

Recognizing that voting is a social responsibility, the SPS will replicate the forum in the second semester to accommodate the students of the College of Nursing.
