About the Library
In June 1975, the Davao School of Nursing Library started its operation with an initial collection of one hundred forty six (146) volumes, mostly medical and nursing books. The Library was housed in a small room with a capacity of twenty-four students only and operated from 8:00 am to 5 pm. The library also served as the conference room of physicians of Davao Doctors Hospital.

The first librarian was the late Mrs. Remedios S. Brucal. In January 1976, Mrs. Brucal resigned and Miss Lucrecia G. Regidor took over. To cope with the growing population and the needs of the clientele, the library was opened for service from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Miss Lilia Mendez was hired as a part-time librarian to take charge of the afternoon and evening duties.

In 1976, the library was transferred to the third floor of the Hospital Annex Building. The library was adjacent to the faculty room. By June 1978 the library was again transferred to a room overlooking E. Quirino Avenue on the same floor. This time the space was bigger (equivalent to 2 rooms) and the collection increased to 348 volumes. The library started its subscriptions to newspapers, magazines and journals. Miss Mendez resigned leaving only Miss Regidor to manage the library until June 1978.

Mrs. Ceniza Cubil was hired on June 30, 1978. She served the library for 3 years. Then on June 30, 1981, Miss Rosario T. Tero (now Mrs. Tubog) replaced her . In June 1984, the library was again transferred to a much bigger space in the same building overlooking St. Jude Church. Because of the growing population of the College of Nursing, Mr. Dionisio Dumanig Jr. was hired on February 12, 1986 as an Assistant Librarian. Two student library assistants were also hired as support staff.

On May 28, 1990, Davao Doctors College was transferred to new site along General Malvar Street. The library was housed at the 4th floor of the main building with a floor area equivalent to 4 rooms. This time, the library was organized and arranged into sections namely the Circulation, Reference/Filipiniana, and Periodical Sections. The whole library area (353.25 sq. m.) was fully air-conditioned since April 1999.

In May 1997, the Audio-Visual Room with a seating capacity for 200 users was established with elevated viewing area, vinyl tiles flooring and air-conditioning. It was equipped with a sound system, VHS player, slide projector, and 2 TV sets (21" Sony and a new 48" Philips).
In December 1997, the library received 1 Compaq computer from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through FAPENET for the computerization of CHED Reports.

Because one of the major goals of DDC library is to provide its users with up-to-date information, the Internet was finally available to students on July 17, 1999. Three (3) computer terminals were provided for the initial phase. The Internet is part of new instructional program of DDC through NET Curricula.

The Faculty Library Committee was created on June 29, 1999 as an advisory body to the librarian. It is composed of 2 representatives each from the Nursing, Physical Therapy and BS Biology; and one representative each from the Optometry, Radiologic Technology, HRM, Psychology, Communication Arts, and Computer Science Departments.

With Mrs. Elsa G. Navales, the Head Librarian from October 1997 to September 1998 and Library Consultant from October 1998 to September 1999, and with the support of Mrs. Tubog, Mr. Dumanig, Jr. and 11 student assistants, the library has attained its present growth and development.

In September 1999, DDC attained Level I PACUCOA accreditation for its Nursing Program.

In October 1999, Mrs. Elsa G. Navales resigned from her position and Miss Juvy Ellorimo took over. She worked only for six months and then transferred to another school. Because of the great demand of library services, the library administration felt the need of personnel vacated by Ms. Ellorimo. On May 15, 2000, Miss Bregitte V. Reyes (now Mrs. Miguel) with license no. 0002149 was hired to take the place of Ms. Ellorimo. On July 16, 2001, Mrs. Simplicia A. Mendoza with license no. 0000322 was hired as Chief Librarian to conform to the increasing number of students.

In December 2001, Mrs. Miguel took a maternity leave. Mrs. Amor Manlicmot, a licensed librarian, was hired to substitute Mrs. Miguel and was later recommended for a permanent position. Due to health reasons, however, Mrs. Manlicmot resigned in April 16, 2002. Miss Teresita D. Selgas, also a licensed librarian, was hired vice Mrs. Manlicmot on May 6, 2002.

The increased population prompted the DDC Administration to build a new building in August 2001, the College of Health Sciences Building, to house the General Education laboratories and the library. In June 2002, the Library was transferred to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the new CHS Building.

To further provide the students with state of the art information technology, the Internet Section was upgraded. Seventy computers were purchased and a fully air-conditioned Internet Room was also housed at the new CHS Building. On April 23, 2002 Miss Ermellie Faith J. Ramos was transferred from the Accounting Office to man the Internet services.

On December 4, 2002, Mrs. Angelita A. Bisares was hired as Chief Librarian due to a need of a Master of Science in Library Science but for a part-time basis only. A need to have a full-time Chief Librarian was very necessary which resulted to the hiring of Ms. Estela T. Reponte last February 22, 2003.
Moreover, on April 24, 2003, Mr. Jenard Jamil and Mr. Ernestino Avena were hired to answer the lack of manpower of the department. Mr. Jamil was the Baggage Counter In-charge while the later was in-charge of the control area. Furthermore, Mr. John Paul Cael was hired last July 1, 2003 as an AVR In-charge.

With the increased number of student population for the Academic Year 2004-2005, 5 additional fulltime personnel were hired subsequently: Mary Jane R. Mibulos, a licensed librarian vice Bregitte Miguel who resigned last May 2004; Ronelio T.
