Abstract
This study aims to determine the level of artificial intelligence (AI) writing tools usage, assess the level of writing competence, and explore if there is a significant relationship between the usage of AI writing tools and the writing competence of senior high school students. A descriptive correlational research design was employed to gather the needed data. The respective data were collected through online surveys using Google Forms from a sample of 294 grade 12 senior high school students at Davao Doctors College, Inc., who were selected using a simple random sampling technique. The statistical analysis used revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the utilization of AI writing tools and writing competence (r = .477, p < 0.05). These findings suggest that integrating AI writing tools into the senior high school curriculum holds educational significance, potentially enhancing students’ writing competence. As for recommendations, educators are encouraged to adapt pedagogical approaches that incorporate technology-enhanced methods, and stakeholders should be made aware of the benefits of AI writing tools for improving writing skills in the high school setting. These insights contribute to the ongoing discourse on technology integration in education, providing valuable considerations for educators, administrators, and policymakers seeking to optimize writing instruction in senior high schools.

Jayrouz Y. Mangindra, RRT Shellford Ann H. Rallon, RRT, Carl Louwel C. Ampig, RRT, Nicole S. Secobus, RRT, Earl John R. Trinidad, RRT

Abstract
This study explores how Radiologic Technology students approach learning by examining their levels of motivation, use of learning strategies, and ability to maintain attention. A descriptive-correlational quantitative research design was used, involving 472 students from various year levels. Using a modified Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and Moss Attention Rating Scale (MARS), the study assessed students’ time study management, motivation (self-efficacy and test anxiety), and attention span. The findings show that students generally manage their study time well (with an average score of 5.64) and are moderately motivated (average score of 5.51), while also maintaining a strong attention span (average score of 3.77). Further analysis revealed a moderate positive link between the use of learning strategies and attention span, and a stronger positive connection between motivation and attention span. These results suggest that students who use effective learning strategies and stay motivated are more likely to sustain longer attention spans, which can improve their academic performance. The study highlights the importance of nurturing motivation and good time management skills in educational environments. Future research could focus on understanding cause-and-effect relationships and developing strategies to help allied health students enhance their learning outcomes.

Title: UNVEILING THE LIVED EXPERIENCES OF CARDIOVASCULAR SONOGRAPHERS WITH CHRONIC MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN

Jo Krizza C. Estremos, RRT

Abstract
This study examines the lived experiences of cardiovascular sonographers who suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain, focusing on how chronic pain affects their professional performance, particularly in terms of scanning quality and productivity. Using a phenomenological approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine experienced cardiovascular sonographers who regularly experience work-related musculoskeletal pain. Participants had at least one year of experience to ensure relevant exposure to occupational musculoskeletal pain. The participants must be currently employed to ensure real-time working conditions and relevant coping mechanisms that participants use in current role. Data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method to emphasize the fundamental nature of specific lived experiences for cardiac sonographers. The study reveals that participants reported that pain frequently compromised image quality due to discomfort-induced changes in posture and technique, resulting in extended scanning durations and decreased diagnostic efficiency. Additionally, the study found that pain-related fatigue negatively affected productivity and contributed to emotional stress. Common coping strategies included stretching, deep breathing exercises, and taking regular breaks, aimed at reducing physical discomfort and mental fatigue. These findings underscore the significant impact of chronic musculoskeletal pain on the professional performance and well-being of cardiovascular sonographers. The study highlights the need for ergonomic interventions, better pain management strategies, and institutional support to improve sonographers' health, enhance productivity, and ultimately contribute to better patient care and job satisfaction.

Title: OCCUPATIONAL SELF-EFFICACY AND RESILIENCE OF NURSES: KEY PREDICTORS OF WORKPLACE WELL-BEING IN REGION XI

MA. JUBILEE T. PINEDA-ADUCAL, RN

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the significant influence of nurses’ occupational self-efficacy and resilience on workplace well-being. The researcher used a descriptive-predictive research design in this study. A total of 210 respondents were selected via convenience sampling technique. Data were gathered through adapted questionnaires for occupatio al self-efficacy (Eslin, 2016), resilience (Park et al., 2019), and workplace well-being (Smith & Smith, 2017). Results revealed a very high level of occupational self-efficacy in task-oriented activities (M=3.29; SD= 0.33), resilience in philosophical patterns (M= 3.33; SD= 0.41), and a high level of workplace well-being in stress management (M=3.15; SD = 0.36) and job security (M=3.15; SD = 0.37) among nurses. Significantly, occupational self-efficacy and resilience were positively correlated with workplace well-being among nurses. However, occupational self-efficacy and resilience did not significantly influence the workplace well-being of nurses. It is recommended that programs centered on skills training be used to enhance nurses’ skillsets and address their workplace well-being in an organization. Furthermore, it is also recommended that stress management programs be provided to avoid burnout among nurses.

Title: WORKLOAD, NURSING CARE MODALITY AND WORK-RELATED STRESS AMONG NURSES IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN DAVAO DEL SUR

Liezel Jan R. Ballesteros,RN

Abstract
Workload and work-related stress may have been the major factors in nursing practice nowadays. This study aimed to examine the level of workload, the nursing care modalities utilized among nurses in private hospitals, and their level of work-related stress. Descriptive, correlational, and comparative designs were utilized in this study. Data were collected using an adapted questionnaire based on the Workload Scale and a work-related stress questionnaire, which underwent validity and reliability testing with a McDonald’s Omega result of 0.85 and 0.92, respectively. A total of 101 nurses participated in the study. The findings revealed that nurses have an elevated level of workload who were working under pressure but did not feel frustrated in their work. The work-related stress was also found to be highest when dealing with technology and the least when experiencing discrimination among colleagues. However, the study showed a significant difference in the level of workload among nurses when grouped according to nursing care modality; primary nursing care has a higher workload compared to functional nursing care. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in the level of stress among nurses when grouped according to nursing care modality. Moreover, there was no significant relationship between the level of workload and work-related stress among staff nurses, which suggests that there are other factors that caused the high level of work-related stress apart from their workload.

Title: Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices on Maternal Care Among Adolescent Mothers in the Rural Health Units in North Cotabato

Hazel Grace Z. Bering, RN

Abstract
Adolescent motherhood and early pregnancy have significant implications, negatively affecting the physical health, mental well-being, educational attainment, and economic prospects of young people. Addressing teenage mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices is essential, as these factors influence maternal and birth outcomes. However, gaps remain in understanding the specific needs and challenges this group of young mothers faces. A descriptive correlational research design was used in this study to examine the knowledge and attitudes towards maternal care that influenced adolescent mothers' practices in the Rural Health Units in North Cotabato. A convenience sampling technique was employed to select a total of 100 respondents. The participants were teenage mothers who had given birth between July 2024 and September 2024 and were willing to participate in the study. A pilot study was conducted with twenty (20) participants, and one hundred (100) adolescent mothers participated in the main study. Data were gathered using an adapted questionnaire from Akhtar et al. (2018). The survey results showed that most respondents were nineteen (19) years old (31.0%), had a household income of less than 5,000 PHP (66.0%), were in live-in relationships (73.0%), had attained a high school level of education (35.0%), identified as Roman Catholic (55.0%), and were unemployed (96.0%). Based on the results of the standardized assessment scale used in the study, adolescent mothers demonstrated a very high level of knowledge and attitudes toward maternal care.In contrast, their maternal care practices were rated as high. The findings indicate no significant correlation between knowledge and maternal care practices (rs = .182, p =.070). However, a significant positive relationship was found between attitude and maternal care practices (rs = .207, p = .039). This suggests that as attitudes toward maternal care improve, maternal care practices also increase.

Title: LEADERSHIP STYLES AND WORK PERFORMANCE AS PERCEIVED BY GEN Z NURSES IN SELECTED HOSPITALS OF DAVAO CITY

Sarah Jane S. Canono

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the leadership styles of Gen Z nurses in selected Davao City hospitals and their impact on work performance. This aims to examine the perception of Gen Z nurses about the leadership styles, its correlation, significance and its relationship to work performance. A predictive-correlation research design and stratified random sampling were employed to collect data from 104 young, primarily female nurses. 2 Adopted questionnaires were used during data collection process for the 5 selected hospitals of Davao City. The findings revealed that Gen Z nurses predominantly favored democratic leadership, followed by laissez-faire leadership, while authoritarian leadership was less preferred. The study also showed strong task and contextual performance among Gen Z nurses, but also a concerning level of counterproductive work behavior. Correlation analysis indicated weak but significant positive relationships between both authoritarian and laissez-faire leadership styles and work performance. However, democratic leadership showed no significant correlation. Regression analysis revealed that laissez-faire leadership emerged as the strongest predictor of work performance, followed by authoritarian leadership. As per Situational Leadership theory, no specific leadership style fits to all generations, leaders should adjust to the members of different age groups in order to be able to improve work performance and significantly minimize counterproductive work behavior in order to achieve effective and quality outcome.

Oveth P. Flores

Abstract
The study aimed to determine the influence of clinical and communicative competence on caring efficacy among nurses in Davao City. Seventy staff nurses currently working in Davao City's private hospitals were chosen for this study. The researcher used the predictive-correlational design as an approach to the research study to examine causal relationships between the variables. Findings revealed that most respondents were 35 to 37 years old (21 out of 70; 30%), female (60 out of 70; 85.7%), BSN degree holders (66 out of 70; 94.3%) with 11 to 15 years of hospital work experience (22 out of 70; 31. 4%). The results of the study also found that respondents had a positive perception of their clinical competence of 4.38 (very high), with high scores in legal/ethical practice 4.54 (very high), and low scores in research aptitude/critical thinking 4.23 (high). Overall, a significant positive relationship was found between clinical competence and caring efficacy with a p-value of 0.033 and an r-coefficient of 0.289. Specifically, clinical competence had a significant positive, but weak relationship with a number of caring efficacy indicators, including clinical care (p = 0.002; rs = 0.365), leadership (p = 0.007; rs = 0.318), interpersonal relations (p = 0.010; rs = 0.305), and research aptitude/critical thinking (p = 0.005; rs = 0.331). Meanwhile, two indicators, legal/ethical practice (p = 0.098; rs = 0.199), and professional development (p = 0.077; rs = 0.213), did not have a significant relationship with caring efficacy. However, there was no significant relationship was found between communicative competence and caring efficacy (p = 0.206; rs = 0.153). Lastly, communicative competence (p = 0.316; OE = 0.083), did not significantly influence caring efficacy. The study's findings indicate that communication strategies and direct patient care require more improvement. Staff nurses are, therefore, urged to participate in communicative competence training courses.

Title: Self-Efficacy and Clinical Performance of Nurses in Selected Hospitals' in Tagum City

Daren Rose E. Mariano, RN

Abstract
This study explored the relationship between self-efficacy and clinical performance among nurses in private hospitals in Tagum City. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, 120 nurses with at least two years of experience participated in the study. Data were gathered through a modified survey adapted from validated self-efficacy and clinical performance scales. The findings revealed that most respondents were female, aged 27 to 30, with 2 to 5 years of experience, predominantly assigned to general wards. Nurses demonstrated high levels of self-efficacy, which were strongly reflected in their exceptional clinical performance across various domains, including problem-solving, teamwork, ethics, and leadership. Also, it demonstrates their ability to handle complex patient care demands effectively. A significant correlation was found between self-efficacy and clinical competence, underscoring the importance of confidence in one's abilities to deliver high-quality care. This result is consistent with Bandura's Self-Efficacy Theory, which emphasizes the role of belief in personal capabilities in achieving professional success and fostering resilience in healthcare settings. Additionally, the findings align with the Theory of Planned Behavior, which suggests that attitudes and perceived control over professional situations strongly influence clinical outcomes. The study suggests strategies such as retention programs, professional development workshops, and mentorship to sustain and enhance self-efficacy, particularly among younger nurses, to address turnover concerns. Furthermore, fostering a supportive workplace that prioritizes open communication and nurtures self-efficacy could enhance job satisfaction and patient care quality. Strengthening nurses' confidence and skills improves their performance and ensures better patient outcomes and overall organizational success.

Title: The Influence of Alarm Fatigue on Work Role Functioning among Staff Nurses in Private Hospitals in Davao City

Mariecel A. Millan,RN

Abstract
This study investigates the influence of alarm fatigue and work role functioning among nurses in private hospitals in Davao City. A predictive-correlational design was used to determine the causal relationships between variables. A total of 70 nurses were selected via sampling technique. Data were collected using adopted questionnaires for alarm fatigue and work-role functioning. Data revealed a predominant age group of thirty-five to forty years, with a significant majority being female. Findings also indicate that nurses had moderate levels of alarm fatigue, which, while significant, does not lead to complete desensitization. Moreover, it revealed high mental and social demands placed on nurses, emphasizing the need for strong support networks to enhance their well-being. Significantly, there is a positive correlation between alarm fatigue and work role functioning, implying that higher levels of alarm fatigue may be associated with improved role functioning as nurses develop adaptive strategies to cope with the demands of their environment. Alarm fatigue significantly influences work role functioning in health care, causing desensitization. Furthermore, these findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to manage alarm fatigue effectively, thereby enhancing nurse’s work role functioning and well-being.

Title: TAKING UP THE CHALLENGE: LIVED EXPERIENCES OF NOVICE NURSE LEADERS

Jennifer H. Ordaneza

Abstract
Despite the critical role of nurse leaders in healthcare systems, there is limited research on the transition experiences of novice nurse leaders. Most studies focus on experienced nurse leadership, leaving a gap in understanding the unique challenges, learning processes, and support needs of those newly stepping into leadership roles. Nurse leaders play a fundamental role in influencing change and driving improvement, both to enhance patient outcomes and experiences and to create and sustain positive environments for staff. This study aimed to explore and describe the experience of novice nurse leaders as they transitioned to a new role and responsibilities. A purposive sample of 10 novice nurse leaders were interviewed. Using Van Manen’s (1990) hermeneutic phenomenological method, rigor was established through the application of verification and validation. Thematic analysis was applied to systematically code and categorize sixty-nine (69) significant statements, from which key themes emerged. The challenges and adjustments faced by novice nurse leaders as they transition into leadership roles often lead to Feeling Overwhelmed, highlighting their initial struggles with managing responsibilities, navigating expectations, and adapting to roles. The themes under this include: Transitioning Roles, Leadership Balancing Responsibilities, From Theory to Practice Training’s Real Impact, and Sense of Fulfillment Leadership’s Highs and Lows. Novice nurse leaders demonstrate remarkable perseverance and adaptability, which is evident in the emergent theme Thriving Through Challenges. This captures their ability to navigate complex situations and develop effective strategies for success, with related themes such as: Bolstering Resilience, Collaborating with Healthcare Team, Valuing Motivation, Remaining Calm, Prioritizing Tasks, Communication at the Core Connection and Resolution, and Resilience and Adaptability. The journey of novice nurse leaders reveals their desire to inspire and uplift others, as the valuable insights they wanted to share with fellow nurse leaders and the nursing profession in general comprised Fostering Transformational Growth with clustered themes including: Empowerment through Education and Mentorship and Embracing Leadership Roles. These findings highlight the need for targeted leadership development programs and mentorship initiatives to better support novice nurse leaders, ultimately enhancing leadership effectiveness and improving patient care outcomes.

Title: Work-Related Quality of Life and Work-Life Balance among Public-School Nurses in Davao Region

Princess Fabrienne T. Panganiban

Abstract
The work-related quality of life (WRQoL) and work-life balance (WLB) of public-school nurses in Davao Region, highlighted the need for strategic interventions to improve workplace conditions and reduce stress. The research utilized a descriptive-predictive design and employed a universal collected sample strategy, involving complete enumeration of 188 public school nurses from several cities in the Davao Region. The WRQoL scale by Easton and Van Laar (2007) and the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) scale by Henry et al. (2009) was the validated instruments for data collection with Cronbach’s alpha reliability scores of .95 (WRQoL) and .56 (ProQOL). The findings indicated that nurses reported substantial levels of WRQoL, driven by favorable working conditions and high job satisfaction. However, burnout and mild stress were significant issues. Compassion satisfaction was substantial, suggesting fulfilling caregiving duties. Gender was a key factor positively influencing WLB, with significant correlations between WLB and aspects of WRQoL, such as job satisfaction and workplace autonomy. These results highlighted the critical need for policies that promote supportive environments and effectively manage stress to enhance the well-being of public-school nurses in the Davao Region. Future interventions should focus on addressing the identified areas of concern to cultivate improved WRQoL and WLB among these public-school nurses.

Title: Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices on Antibiotic Use among Nurses in Cotabato City

Kenneth Jayce R. Papa, RN

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) regarding antibiotic use in some of the healthcare facilities in Cotabato City, Philippines. The study aimed to identify the factors influencing nurses' adherence to antibiotic protocols and to provide recommendations for improving antibiotic stewardship and patient safety. This study examined nurses' KAP regarding antibiotic use of nurses in some of the healthcare facilities in Cotabato City, Philippines. There was a total of 104 nurses from government and private hospitals. They were selected via convenience sampling technique. A descriptive-predictive design was used in the study. The study used an adapted questionnaire from Lalithabai et al. (2022) and Jainlabdin et al. (2021), subject to validity and reliability testing. The findings revealed significant associations between demographic factors and nurses’ knowledge (rs=.264, p = 0.019) and attitudes (rs =.614, p = <0.001). Gender and experience were significantly associated with knowledge, while age and experience were associated with attitudes. However, demographic variables did not significantly affect practices on antibiotic use amongst nurses, suggesting that internal factors primarily drive adherence to antibiotic protocols. A positive relationship was observed between knowledge and practices, with knowledge accounting for about one-fourth of the variance. Attitudes emerged as the strongest predictor, explaining nearly half of the practice variance. Nurses with positive attitudes demonstrated higher adherence to protocols, highlighting the critical role of fostering favorable attitudes toward antibiotic stewardship. Enhancing nurses' knowledge and attitudes is essential for improving practices, ensuring adherence to antimicrobial stewardship, and promoting patient safety. Further, develop evidence-based training modules and instructional plans that address identified gaps in nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices; conduct periodic evaluations of the effectiveness of these programs and refine them to address emerging challenges in antibiotic use and resistance.

Title: Levels of Awareness and Practices on Sanitation and Personal Hygiene among Residents of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas in Davao City

Luis James V. Presbitero, RN

Abstract
This study examined the awareness and practices of sanitation and personal hygiene among residents of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in the Paquibato District, Davao City, Philippines. The study utilized the predictive-correlational research design. Data were collected using the UNICEF's Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) (UNICEF, 2019), the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program (The DHS Program, 2020), the Global Handwashing Partnership KAP Survey (Global Handwashing Partnership, 2020), and WaterAid's Sanitation and Hygiene Survey Toolkit (WaterAid, 2019). The study involved 129 conveniently selected GIDA residents. The findings revealed a strong awareness of essential practices such as hand washing, water treatment, and waste management. However, significant gaps were identified between knowledge and actual practices, particularly regarding waste management and clean water access. A notable positive correlation was established between knowledge and hygiene behaviors, which suggest that increased knowledge on sanitation and personal hygiene, enhances their practices. This underscores the critical role of education in promoting community health. Sustained improvements in sanitation behavior and overall health can only be achieved through the active participation of the community, the implementation of sustainable technologies, and the continued support of health education initiatives.

Title: Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices of Nurses Caring for Diabetic Patients in a Government Hospital in Cotabato City

Shalini Alexa V. Rosal, RN

Abstract
Diabetic foot care is a health concern in caring for diabetic patients, requiring effective nursing care to prevent complications and save lives. This study explores nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices on diabetic foot care in a government hospital in Cotabato City. Using the descriptive, predictive research design, the study was conducted on 119 nurses using convenience sampling. The study utilized an adapted questionnaire from Siryani et al. (2017), subjected to validity and reliability testing with a Chronbach Alpha value of 0.704. Results revealed that nurses had moderate knowledge (M = 55.18%) of the disease and its signs and symptoms but were more knowledgeable in its management. This situation resulted in a moderately positive attitude (M = 2.79) towards diabetic foot care regarding responsibility for patient education in prevention and management, the same as personal preferences and satisfaction, but a more positive attitude toward time constraints and workload during nursing care. The nurses showed remarkable practices (M=3.99) in caring for patients, especially in education, communication, and documentation, which are vital in inpatient care. Attitude and knowledge were therefore considered significant predictors of the practices. Advanced education, nursing experience, and continuous professional development are critical in enhancing nurses' competencies. Addressing issues on time constraints and workload through improved resource allocation and ensuring access to reliable information sources are essential to improving nursing practices and patient outcomes. Further, evaluating the impact of motivational programs, professional recognition initiatives, and workshops on nursing practices and patient outcomes would provide valuable insights. Qualitative research, such as interviews and focus groups, could explore personal and professional factors influencing nurses' practices, offering an interesting perspective on barriers and facilitators.

Title: Conflict Management Styles and Job Satisfaction of Nursing Faculty Members in A Private Higher Education Institution

Kenneth M. Sabido, RN, MN

Abstract
The study aimed to determine if conflict management styles influence the job satisfaction among nursing faculty members in a private higher education institution in Davao City. A predictive-correlational design was used in this study. A total of 80 respondents were selected via convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using an adapted questionnaires for conflict management styles (Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument) and Job Satisfaction (Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire). The findings revealed that collaborative and accommodating styles were the most commonly adopted conflict management strategies among nursing faculty members. These styles used by nursing faculty members reported higher job satisfaction, particularly in aspects related to teamwork, communication, and autonomy. Conversely, those who favored avoidant or competitive styles exhibited lower job satisfaction due to increased stress and perceived workplace tension. Significantly, domains of conflict management styles such as integrating, obliging, and compromising were correlated with job satisfaction among nursing faculty members. Also, data showed that sex was associated with conflict management and job satisfaction. Moreover, integration was the only domain of conflict management styles significantly influenced the job satisfaction among nursing faculty members. Furthermore, it concludes that promoting collaborative conflict management strategies can significantly enhance job satisfaction among nursing faculty. Institutions should consider implementing targeted training programs and fostering a culture of open communication to address conflicts constructively. These interventions can ultimately lead to improved faculty performance and a more supportive work environment in nursing education.

Title: LIVED EXPERIENCE OF NURSES CARING FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH MULTIDRUG-RESISTANT PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS

Rodelyn B. Sabillo, LPT, RN

Abstract
The prevalence of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis as one of the most infectious diseases worldwide is found to be expansive. Thus, effective institutional support is vital to develop resilience among frontliners, specifically among Nurses. This study aimed to highlight the lived experiences of these Nurses who had personally cared for patients afflicted with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. This investigated their experiences, coping strategies, and proposed recommendations. Hermeneutic-Phenomenological research design was utilized which resulted in a collaborative process of creating meaning between the researcher and the participants. Eight Nurses caring for patients with MDR-TB were purposely selected to participate in the face-to-face interviews. The narratives of their experiences were achieved through van Manen’s six-step thematic analysis by reading and re-reading their narratives to create cluster themes that defined the phenomenon. The results exhibited the experiences of Nurses working in a secondary level hospital as a cognitive dissonance phenomenon developed through qualms over contamination, and vexation of unmet goals. The coping strategies of Nurses while caring for patients living with MDR-TB revolved around their personal and professional optimism through securing home and work environments, harmonizing workflows, and establishing rapport. These actions were essential for illustrating occupational experiences of Nurses who aimed to provide exceptional patient care. Moreover, their experiences had driven them to propose recommendations by boosting Nurses’ competence through enhancing skills and building a comprehensive support system. The study’s findings provided implications for the nursing profession by illuminating the needs of nurses which would provide familiarity for aspiring nurses, and guiding future researchers. In essence, targeted support and training were significant priorities to urgently address specific challenges faced by these Nurses.

Title: EFFECTIVENESS OF LACTATION AND MANAGEMENT TRAINING ON THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN LACTATION PROCEDURES AMONG HEALTHCARE STAFF IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL IN DAVAO CITY

Mariel Grace C. Sison, RN

Abstract
This study evaluated the effectiveness of lactation and management training on the knowledge and skills related to lactation procedures among healthcare providers at a selected private institution in Davao City. The study used the quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test research design. Fifty respondents were chosen through simple random sampling. The study used a self-made questionnaire patterned after the Department of Health Manual. The questionnaire underwent content validity testing, and reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha and KR-20. Results revealed that most respondents are female, aged 20 to 24, hold a Bachelor’s degree, and work primarily as nurses. Respondents demonstrated a high level of knowledge in the pre-intervention assessment, which significantly improved in the post-intervention evaluation. Additionally, their skills showed notable enhancement after the training. The only significant difference in the demographic profile was related to educational attainment. The research output found that the intervention successfully improved the respondents' knowledge and skills. However, more data, especially related to knowledge retention, is recommended for more definitive conclusions. It is suggested that the training be extended, with a follow-up evaluation of knowledge and skills after one year to assess long-term retention.
